TO LIFE THROUGH ART—autoportets/self-portraits [six folded sheets and one small leaflet in two envelopes]
Wroclaw: N.p., 1984. No binding. Two C6 envelopes, each with three A4 sheets folded twice and one smaller sheet, all xeroxed in black at rectos, some of which are rubber stamped. Text in English and Polish.
Two envelopes of conceptual mail art by Waclaw Ropiecki, each containing three folded sheets with two self-portraits stacked on top of each other in various dispositions, situations, and locations. The smaller sheet provides specific instructions for the recipient to participate, asking, “Dear Friend, please make specially for me a picture of you but don’t make it please in somebody else’s presence.” An ongoing body of work by Ropiecki, labeled under the rubric ‘TO LIFE THROUGH ART.’
Artifact Vibration Standard Score: 7.1.
Both envelopes opened at back flaps resulting in tears along top margin and some paper loss, with postage franking, stamps, and signs of mailing. All sheets with trace amounts of handling creases and age toning due to the paper quality. Very good.
