International Secret/Stamp International [eight postcards in envelope]

International Secret/Stamp International [eight postcards in envelope]

Köln: N.p., [1980]. Eight postcards measuring 14.8 x 10.5 cm (5.8 x 4.13"), printed in black at recto and verso and rubber-stamped in white at rectos on thin card stock. Housed in a C6 open-end envelope with title rubber-stamped in blue ink at front.

Set of eight artists’ postcards by Géza Perneczky, each featuring the word ‘Secret’ rubber-stamped in white in eight different languages, including Arabic, Bulgarian, English, German, Hebrew, Hungarian, Japanese, and Spanish. All versos printed with the same blank postcard design, including a smaller reproduction of the eight words arranged into a rectangle. Assuming the card stock was brighter when originally published, the white rubber-stamped text may have blended in more with their backgrounds. If this assumption is correct, the age toning over time has rendered the white rubber-stamped text more readable. Perhaps a deliberate conceptual intention by Perneczky—or perhaps not.

Artifact Vibration Standard Score: 7.9.

Trace amounts of bumps to corners of envelope and age toning to postcards on account of the paper quality. Very good.
