A compilation of individual essays and short stories on the topic of cybernetics by Victor Pekelis presenting “a unique perspective on cybernetics and Soviet achievements in the field.” Divided into twenty chapters, with topics ranging from “Man/Machine Dialogue,” “Machine Language,” and “Bees, Ants, and Cybernetics” to “Computers, Speed, and the Future,” “Man, Cybernetics, and God,” “Artificial Intelligence,” “Computer Blunders,” “Machines That Give Birth to Other Machines,” “Will Cybernetics Kill Invention?,” and “War and Cybernetics,” to name a few. The book opens with a quote by Norbert Wiener from his book ‘God & Golem, Inc.,’ first published in 1964, which reads, “Render unto man the things which are man’s, and unto the computer the things which are the computer’s.” Includes a table of contents illustrated with collages across thirteen pages.
