The third issue of Brodovitch’s influential design and photography magazine featuring artwork by Ben Shahn, photography by Henri Cartier-Bresson, tipped in French marbled end papers and typography specimens, an article on hobo signs, a 3D section to be viewed with the stereoscopic glasses, an article on the films of Alexander Calder created by Herbert Matter, and several other topics. A timeless lesson in Brodovitch’s approach to art direction, design, rhythm, and image sequencing still relevant today. Complete with two examples of the subscription card and 3D glasses which are often lacking.
A notoriously fragile book with heavy rubbing and wear to covers including splitting along margins of spine and corners (yet spine is all there), heavy foxing to end papers, and trace amounts of water damage to back section of text block which has not affected the pages other than creating some waviness. Thus a good only copy. Item #220
