Mann und Frau

Darmstadt und Neuwied: Hermann Luchterhand Verlag, 1972. Large 8vo softcover in printed black paper wrappers. Unpaginated. Text in German.

A striking artists’ book by Rühm in which he explores the intimacy between ‘man and woman’ through letterforms, abstract geometric design elements, and typography. Words carefully placed on each page are accentuated by treatments to the paper itself, including a page which has been deliberately torn out, and a section where the pages have been horizontally cut in half. A stark and minimalist yet endearing work of concrete poetry by the Austrian author, composer, and visual artist.

Very good with bump to lower right corner of text block, two faint white marks at front cover middle top and bottom, and darkening to end papers. Item #237
