Near Bridport, Dorset: The Bettiscombe Press, 1969. First edition. 16mo accordion-fold printed on card stock. Printed in black and white with hand-coloring in red and green to one of the pages. Unpaginated.
A deliriously dark and psychedelic artists’ book featuring altered photographs by John Miles alongside handwritten words and fragments of texts by Michael Pinney. This lusciously printed visual documentation of a nightmare features haunting human characters, long dark shadows in the city, and abstract paintings made of light. The cut-and-paste layout feels somewhat punk-like, which makes this book feel ahead of its time considering it was published in 1969.
Very good with light foxing and rubbing to covers, some glue residue showing through the back corner of the spine, and a bump to the crown. Item #415
