sprechblasen

sprechblasen

Neuwied, Berlin: Luchterhand, 1968. First edition. Softcover 8vo in printed purple covers wrapped in publisher’s original clear plastic jacket, with inside pages offset printed in black and white. 96 pp. Text mostly in German, with some in English. Inscribed, signed, and dated by the artist.

A handsomely typeset book of concrete and experimental poetry that explores the written word and associated concepts. The beauty of Jandl’s work is what he accomplishes using so little which makes the minimalistic approach poetry in it of itself.

The handwritten inscription in blue ink on the front endpaper features a four word poem with two words in English and two words in German which reads ‘feeling, rohling, darling, frühling …’, and translates into ‘feeling, blank, darling, spring …’ The inscription is addressed to a women named ‘Inger’ and is dated ‘October ’68.’

Very good with overall age toning throughout and a bump to bottom right corner. Item #54
