dutch railway system

utrecht / holland: published by the artist, 1971. First edition of 99 in the regular edition, of which this no. 21. Side-stapled 4to in stiff silver wrappers with blue cloth-covered spine, and pages printed in black and white on recto side only. Unpaginated (32 pp.)

Early artists’ book by Dutch concrete poet G. J. de Rook (Gerrit Jan de Rook), featuring twenty-six abstract drawings—one for every letter of the alphabet—created by the movement of the train along various routes of the Dutch railway system. Each drawing is labeled with a letter of the alphabet, annotated with the names of the two stations, the date, and the color of the traveled train.

Very good with scuffing to silver covers, including a bump at lower right tip, and trace amounts of age toning to pages. Item #663
