La porta apo(e)rta

Pollenza MC, Altro: La nuova foglio, Magma Editrice, 1971. Black card stock 4to slipcase with white silkscreen printing on both sides housing a white card stock portfolio with folded flaps containing a title page, one double-folded signature, and five tri-folded signatures all laid loose inside the cover. All signatures, including portfolio are offset printed on heavy white card stock in black and white on recto and verso, except for the title page, which is only printed on the recto. Text in Italian.

An artists’ book with a title that translates into ‘The open door’ featuring six loose signatures with the phrases ‘lo c’ero’ in the top-left corner, followed by ‘ma non lo sapevo’ in the bottom-right corner. The phrases, printed in Helvetica on each page translate to ‘I was there’ and ‘but I did not’, and vary in size from page to page. Between the two phrases is a different visual centered on the page in the form of photographs, advertisements, text fragments, or collage, all which of which are approximately 3 x 2" in size or smaller. The inside left cover of the portfolio also features an essay by the artist. Handsomely designed, this Italian artists’ book is as much about the written word as it is about existence.

Very good with white portfolio showing trace amounts of foxing and rubbing from the black card stock slipcase including wear and crease line along spine, and signatures with some age toning. Item #67
