sweethearts
New York: Something Else Press, 1967. First edition. Softcover 8vo in illustrated wrappers with pages printed in black on verso sides only. Unpaginated.
One of Williams’ more iconic and intimate artists’ books exploring the possibilities and limitations of the word ‘sweethearts’ using an eleven-by-eleven grid (the number of letters in the word itself). The book is deliberately printed backward opening from left to right accentuating the notion it can be read either by turning the pages one by one, or as a flip book. A nice contextualization showcasing the intersection between Fluxus and concrete poetry. Includes an ‘instructions for use’ foreword by the artist.
Very good with trace amounts of rubbing and chipping along cover extremities (common with this title), one reading creases along spine, and a light vertical crease at back cover parallel with spine. One of the better examples we’ve handled of the softcover edition. Item #794
