Issue 16 of Cavan McCarthy’s experimental poetry journal, of which there were 22 published. This issue with a concrete poem on the cover by Andrew Lloyd, a poem by Anselm Hollo, a concrete poem by Michael Horowitz, and a collage by Arthur Moyse on back cover. Differing from other numbers in the series, and per the colophon, this number was issued an experimental taller in format and features less poetry and more news and information regarding related publications in the field of experimental poetry and small press publishing. Mentioned are Edgardo Antonio Vigo’s ‘Diagonal Cero,’ Eugen Gomringer Press, news on John J. Sharkey’s conditional discharge at the Destruction in Art Symposium in Vienna, DE-COLLAGE/6, Arithmetic Texts by Jean François Bory, Julien Blaine, bpNichol, Pierre Garnier, Ronald Gross, ‘Cavpo 67 : BrolAC : Mar : An exhibition of typestracts & other poems’ by Cavan McCarthy, Mandala, and countless others. A canonical reference as it relates to experimental poetry and small press publishing. Cover and closing note from the editor states this is issue no. 16, but colophon refers to this as issue no. 15. Our assumption is that this is an accidental typo made by the editing staff. The concrete poem on the cover by Andrew Lloyd titled ‘Tin Leaves’ “is intended for display on a machine from which the letters are released magnetically.” The same concrete poem also adorns the cover of TLALOC no. 21, albeit in a different color.
A very good example previously folded for mailing, but stored flat. With heavy age toning to covers on account of the inferior paper quality which has also caused the rubberstamped title to fade, light foxing along lower-left cover margin, and bumps to corners. Item #938
